Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said critical remarks that could harm Turkish-Iranian relations should not be voiced.
Earlier, Iran's parliament speaker Ali Larijani accused Turkey of being "pawn of imperialists" for its Syria policies and helping Israel by hosting “Friends of Syria” meeting in Istanbul, Today’s Zaman reports.
Turkish Foreign Minister categorically rejected being on the same page with Israel and dismissed Larijani's remarks. He said Turkey's "no" vote in 2010 in the UN Security Council, refusing to nod the fourth round of sanctions on Iran for its suspected nuclear program, its public support for Gazan children under Israel's brutality and its position with respect to Syria are "independent" decisions Turkey have made.
Davutoğlu said Turkey is currently investigating the remarks in some details and phoned his Iranian counterpart, Ali Akbar Salehi, to discuss the matter.
Turkish FM said he told Salehi that these remarks are not in line with the respect Iranians paid to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his delegation during their last week visit to Tehran.
Davutoğlu quoted Salehi as saying that only remarks made by the Iranian foreign minister, president and supreme leader are binding.
He said Turkey also summoned Iran's Ambassador to Ankara to the Foreign Ministry to demand an explanation over Larijani's statements.
