Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan announced that under the planned amendments to Armenia’s Electoral Code, if no political party or coalition secures a majority in the first round of parliamentary elections, a second round will not be held. Instead, new elections will be scheduled.
“From the perspective of strengthening democracy, we found it more appropriate that after the first round of elections, if no political majority or coalition is formed, instead of holding a second round, fresh elections should take place. This would offer political forces a greater chance to consolidate ahead of the second vote,” Galyan stated, as reported by Aysor.am .
The minister clarified that the new elections would start from a clean slate.
“If those results again fail to produce a majority, then a second round will follow — essentially under the same rules currently in place,” she added.
Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 2026.
