UK Defense Minister pays tribute at Genocide Memorial

On December 5, a delegation led by Vernon Coaker, Minister of State for Defense of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial complex. He was accompanied by Armenian Deputy Defense Minister Arman Sargsyan, Armenian Ambassador to the UK Varuzhan Nersesyan, and UK Ambassador to Armenia Alexandra Hall Hall, according to the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute.

Vernon Coaker laid a wreath at the monument honoring the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Members of the delegation also laid flowers at the eternal flame and observed a moment of silence in memory of the innocent victims.

Continuing the initiative launched during Minister James Heappey's August visit, which announced the UK’s intent to elevate its relationship with Armenia to a strategic partnership, Coaker is in Yerevan to officially open the UK’s first permanent Defense Section in Armenia.

“This reaffirms the UK’s long-term commitment to Armenia’s security and sovereignty,” stated the UK Embassy in Yerevan.
