Armenia does not aim to sever its relationship with Russia, and this stance is clearly communicated to international partners, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated, according to Sputnik Armenia.
“The Armenian government does not have an agenda to 'push Russia out' of Armenia or to cut political and economic ties. There is no such agenda or policy. This is communicated directly to international partners to avoid misunderstandings,” he said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova earlier expressed concern over Armenia’s reported investigations into so-called “Russian influence agents.” During a December 25 briefing, she said Moscow is closely watching the actions of Armenian authorities, who, in her words, appear to label any opposition figure as an “agent of influence.”
“Who are these people, those supporting the development of bilateral relations? But Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan repeatedly states the need to strengthen ties with Russia. He consistently speaks of a friendly attitude toward our country,” Zakharova said.
