Russia may issue Armenia travel warning, Matviyenko says

Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko raised the issue of arrests of Russian citizens in Armenia during a telephone conversation with Armenian National Assembly Speaker Ruben Rubinyan, TASS reports.

She said that if the arrests continue, Russia may advise its citizens against traveling to Armenia.

“The Federation Council Speaker drew attention to the recurring arrests of Russian citizens in Armenia at the request of third countries. If this practice continues, Russia will be forced to advise its tourists against visiting the republic,” the Federation Council’s press service said.

According to Russian sources, Russian citizen Alexander Yermakov was detained in Armenia in mid-July after allegedly being mistaken for a hacker with the same first and last name who was wanted by Interpol. According to Telegram channels, he had traveled to Armenia with his wife for a vacation but was detained at Zvartnots Airport.
