The Civil Contract faction has nominated lawmaker Vilen Gabrielyan as chair of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense and Security.
During the discussion, another Civil Contract lawmaker, Garik Sargsyan, asked his teammate Gabrielyan whether Soviet Azerbaijan’s intelligence services might have recruited him during his childhood, Factor.am reports.
“Could it be possible, or could it have happened, that at the age of five, six or seven you were recruited by the intelligence services of Soviet Azerbaijan, the KGB at the time?” Sargsyan asked.
Gabrielyan replied that at that age, he could not have attracted the interest of the relevant agencies.
“At five or six years old, I don’t think I could have been of interest to the relevant agencies. As for whether I could have been recruited by the intelligence services of another country, the clear and unequivocal answer is ‘no.’ Such a thing could not have happened,” Gabrielyan said.
Parliament earlier adopted a draft decision submitted by the Civil Contract faction, under which the ninth National Assembly will have 12 standing committees. Taking into account the numerical distribution of the parliamentary factions, the minimum number of members of standing committees was set at eight.
Civil Contract has 64 members, Strong Armenia has 29, and the Hayastan faction has 12.
