Strong Armenia faction MP Marianna Ghahramanyan addressed the state of freedom of speech in the National Assembly, presenting data published in several reports.
“When you talk about freedom of speech and cite it as an achievement of your government, I urge you to examine the report by the authoritative international organization Reporters Without Borders. Armenia has moved from 34th to 50th place there, recording a decline in its position,” she said, addressing MPs from the Civil Contract faction, Panorama.am reported.
The MP also urged them to review reports by the Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression covering 2010-2018 and 2018-2026, highlighting several indicators.
“Let me mention a few indicators. For example, there were 77 cases of physical violence before 2018, compared with 82 cases under your government.
“Pressure on media: there were 46 cases before 2018 and 795 cases under your government.
“Problems related to access to, freedom and dissemination of information: there were 209 cases before 2018 and 825 cases under your government,” Ghahramanyan said.
