The intention to question 103-year-old Great Patriotic War veteran Rosalia Abgaryan in Armenia demonstrates the “moral decline” resulting from rapprochement with Europe and “fraternization” with Kyiv, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
It was earlier reported that 103-year-old Armenian Great Patriotic War veteran Rosalia Abgaryan would be questioned as part of a criminal case involving a Strong Armenia supporter concerning an alleged violation of the ban on charitable activities during the pre-election period.
“It is difficult to find more striking evidence of the kind of moral and spiritual decline brought about by rapprochement with today’s faceless, morally impoverished Europe and fraternization with the neo-Nazi Kyiv regime,” Zakharova said in comments published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website, Sputnik Armenia reported.
The diplomat stressed that distinguished people such as Rosalia Abgaryan are a source of pride for everyone who understands the true significance of the victory over the “brown plague,” because they are guardians of historical memory, universal human values and moral principles.
“It is thanks to their courage and self-sacrifice that today’s Armenia lives and can make plans for the future. Apparently, those in Yerevan’s highest offices have forgotten this. Just as they have forgotten that the republic’s top leadership has met Rosalia Abgaryan and other Great Patriotic War veterans several times ‘in front of the cameras,’ including in Moscow during events marking the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Knowing Rosalia Sergeyevna’s steely resolve, we have no doubt that she will withstand any questioning. But something else is also clear: those who mock the memory of the war and the church no longer hold anything sacred,” she said.
Zakharova also stressed that Moscow has not forgotten that Armenian “sovereign politicians did not have the courage to rein in Volodymyr Zelenskyy” when, according to her, he threatened in Yerevan to strike the May 9 parade on Red Square.
