Military Police faces personnel changes after soldier’s death

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the latest death recorded in the army will lead to personnel changes in the Military Police, as well as in the Defense Ministry’s Department for Moral and Psychological Support.

Pashinyan made the announcement during a briefing after the government meeting, adding that he had discussed the situation with Defense Minister Suren Papikyan in the morning and that certain personnel changes would soon be made in the bodies directly responsible, Armenpress reports.

“I have already made a decision under which there will be changes in the Military Police, and there will also be personnel changes in the Department for Moral and Psychological Support. We will analyze in detail why our efforts in this area are not producing the results we want and will draw conclusions. Yes, there must be individual accountability. My assessment is not that, in the current situation, the chief of the General Staff and the defense minister are failing to make sufficient efforts to resolve this problem,” the prime minister explained.

On August 13, serviceman Grigor Edgar Zakaryan of an unspecified Defense Ministry military unit was found dead with a gunshot wound. An investigation is underway to fully establish the circumstances of the incident.
