Training at a driving school will become mandatory before taking the exam required to obtain a driver’s license, the Interior Ministry said.
Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan met with representatives of driving schools and organizations involved in registration and examination services, the ministry said.
The meeting addressed improvements to the current system for granting driving privileges, increasing the efficiency of registration and examination services, and aligning sector processes with international best practices.
Sargsyan stressed that developing the educational component is one of the most important areas for building a culture of safety.
She said the planned reforms are aimed at improving road safety and creating an education system that will not only provide the knowledge needed to pass the theoretical exam but also foster safe and responsible behavior among future drivers.
The participants also discussed the need to make driver education at driving schools mandatory. Industry representatives who responded positively to the proposal said mandatory training could help improve future drivers’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Licensing the activities of driving schools was another key topic of discussion. Participants submitted proposals on licensing conditions, noting that the requirements to be established should ensure proper training conditions, the necessary technical equipment and safety.
The parties also exchanged views on the procedure for obtaining a driver’s license. Driving school representatives proposed expanding the pool of questions for the theoretical exam and developing a standardized training manual.
At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue professional discussions with the aim of developing final solutions based on the proposals presented.
