Authorities impose restriction on Sargsyan, rearrest Kocharyan

Armenia’s third president, Serzh Sargsyan, has been barred from leaving as a preventive measure, Factor TV reported, citing the Anti-Corruption Committee.

On August 25, Armenia’s second and third presidents were at the Anti-Corruption Committee in connection with the same criminal proceedings. Robert Kocharyan was arrested and taken to the investigative body, while Serzh Sargsyan was summoned there. The Anti-Corruption Committee is preparing to file a motion seeking Robert Kocharyan’s detention, while Sargsyan has been barred from leaving as a preventive measure.

Robert Kocharyan remains at a medical center. After the 24-hour period of his arrest expired, law enforcement officers served Kocharyan with a new arrest order, Factor TV reported, citing its sources within law enforcement.

Under the new order, Robert Kocharyan was arrested again for the purpose of bringing him before a court.

The criminal case under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Committee concerns alleged cases of money laundering on an especially large scale, abuse of official powers and receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. After leaving the Anti-Corruption Committee, Armenia’s third president told reporters that he would be able to speak about the charge against him after receiving the case materials.
