Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking in Armenian at the SCO+ format meeting in Bishkek, said Armenia’s contribution to the formation of a multipolar world is being made through a multipolar foreign policy, which Yerevan describes as a balanced and balancing foreign policy.
He said Yerevan is working with Azerbaijan and Turkey to open interstate communications, including through TRIPP, Factor.am reports.
“The idea is that when the gravitational pull of a geopolitical pole becomes so strong that it could undermine our independence, we activate relations with another pole that has sufficient gravitational force for this situation, thereby maintaining our balance. The main political objective is to preserve and strengthen independence and sovereignty. It is impossible to have independence and sovereignty while living in conditions of conflict, and multipolarity must first be expressed in the region where you live,” Pashinyan said.
He stressed that this is precisely why, while continuing to deepen friendly relations with neighboring Iran and Georgia, Yerevan is also moving toward building interstate relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey.
“This became tangible thanks to the peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8 last year with the support and participation of U.S. President Donald Trump. We are now working with Azerbaijan and Turkey to open our interstate communications, including through TRIPP, whose practical work on the ground will begin in the coming months,” Pashinyan said.
According to the prime minister, this process will create new transport opportunities not only along the east-west route, from the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, but will also make it possible to connect the Persian Gulf with the Black Sea. All countries in the region will benefit from the project’s implementation.
Pashinyan also said Armenia has developed strategic relations with various countries in recent years. According to him, relations with India and Iran have already effectively acquired a strategic character, and work is now underway to formalize them in documents.
He also said he would meet Russian President Vladimir Putin today to discuss a strategy for the further development of bilateral relations.
Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia supports the vision of multipolarity and invited everyone to attend the COP 17 conference to be held in Yerevan in October.
