The election of the Artsakh National Assembly speaker has been temporarily put on hold, Deputy Speaker Gagik Baghunts said, adding that the Artsakh issue remains on their agenda.
“There is no issue of Artsakh National Assembly deputies not gathering to address this matter. Serious discussions are underway, taking into account all political and public issues. Considering a number of circumstances, we have temporarily frozen this issue,” Baghunts told reporters at Yerablur, according to Sputnik Armenia.
Addressing the Artsakh issue, Baghunts stressed that it remains on their agenda and has social, economic and humanitarian dimensions.
“We have a task of keeping the Artsakh issue on the agenda, but today, considering the threats to Armenia’s security, our steps are calculated,” he said, according to Panorama.am.
He also responded to a question about why it had not been possible to elect an Artsakh president and why lawmakers were allegedly not gathering to resolve these issues.
“It remains a mystery to me where the information came from that deputies of the National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh are not gathering and that there is no quorum. There is no such problem.
“There are quite serious discussions that take into account our entire potential, both political and public, as well as the atmosphere prevailing in Armenia and the challenges facing the Republic of Armenia. Taking all these circumstances into account, we have temporarily frozen this issue. Following the forced displacement and relocation to Armenia, we calculate and plan all our steps, bearing in mind that we have lost Artsakh. We are trying to plan all our steps in such a way that we do not inadvertently harm Armenia,” he said.
Asked whether there had been pressure from the Armenian authorities regarding the preservation of Artsakh institutions and the organization of elections, Baghunts replied: “You probably know the answer to that question very well yourselves, judging by the speeches and statements made on various platforms. We are prepared for such pressure.”
A visit to the Yerablur Military Pantheon was organized to mark the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Artsakh, where flowers were laid at the “Call of Artsakh” memorial. The monument was built with funds provided by Artur Vanetsyan, chairman of the Homeland Party.
The Call of Artsakh memorial was unveiled exactly one year ago, on September 2, 2025. It is dedicated to the enduring memory of the heroes who fell in the Artsakh wars, compatriots laid to rest in Artsakh, and those killed in the tragic September 25 explosion at the Defense Army’s fuel depot.
