Following the successful completion of scheduled preventive maintenance for 2026, unit 2 of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) was restarted and reconnected to Armenia’s unified power grid on Sept. 1.
Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Minister Davit Khudatyan announced this on his Facebook page.
During the maintenance, around 20 major measures were carried out to improve the unit’s reliability, safety and operational efficiency.
The maintenance work lasted 153 days, in line with the schedule.
The unit is currently operating normally, with its power being gradually increased in accordance with established technological requirements.
Armenia has announced plans to build a new modular nuclear power plant and is holding negotiations with various countries on the project.
Rosatom State Corporation Director General Alexey Likhachev will visit Yerevan on Sept. 29. He said plans to deploy small modular reactors in Armenia could be reconsidered in favor of gigawatt-scale reactors. Discussions on the issue are expected to be held in Armenia.
