The house arrest imposed on Vahagn Chakhalyan, founder of the Kamk socio-political initiative, has been replaced with administrative supervision. Judge Karen Farkhoyan issued the decision.
Chakhalyan’s current preventive measure expires on Sept. 4, Sputnik Armenia reports.
Before the ruling, prosecutors said that, considering Chakhalyan is his family’s sole breadwinner and has minor children, the preventive measure should be eased, although some form of restriction should still remain in place.
Defense lawyer Aleksan Tumasyan also said the court could take into account his client’s proper conduct over the past one year and two months when making its decision.
Tumasyan also requested that, if any preventive measure were imposed, no monitoring equipment be used, given his client’s health condition and the need for him to undergo regular medical examinations.
The judge stressed that the decision took into account that Chakhalyan is his family’s sole breadwinner and has minor children.
Farkhoyan said administrative supervision would be applied without electronic monitoring devices or time restrictions. The defendant must report to and register with the Probation Service once a week and must not change his place of residence; otherwise, he must notify the body conducting the proceedings.
The travel restriction as a preventive measure remained unchanged, while the court did not consider it appropriate to impose bail.
