Wizz Air launches three new routes from Yerevan

Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air will launch three new routes from Yerevan to Basel, Switzerland; Varna, Bulgaria; and Valencia, Spain. Wizz Air Chief Commercial Officer Jan Malin announced the plans at a news conference.

The company is also increasing the number of aircraft based in Armenia to four, Armenpress reports.

Starting Dec. 18, three weekly flights will operate to Basel, Switzerland. From Dec. 19, flights to Valencia, Spain, will operate twice weekly, while the Varna, Bulgaria, route will launch on June 6.

“Wizz Air is one of the fastest-growing companies. From Armenia, we have 18 routes to 12 European countries. Even before the arrival of the third aircraft in October, we are already thinking about the fourth aircraft. I am pleased to announce that the fourth aircraft will be based in Yerevan starting in December,” Malin said.

Malin also said that from Dec. 17, after the fourth aircraft is based in Yerevan, flight frequencies on several routes will increase. In particular, Yerevan-Prague flights will increase to five per week, while flights to Memmingen, Germany, will rise to four per week.

According to Malin, Wizz Air expects to approach the milestone of serving 100 million passengers annually this year.

Malin said Wizz Air currently bases aircraft at 44 airports. Most of the company’s roughly 270 aircraft are A321neo models, which are distinguished by their high fuel efficiency. He said this is also important from an environmental perspective.
