The TRIPP agreement has been found consistent with Armenia’s Constitution. The Constitutional Court’s External Relations Department provided the information, Factor.am reports.
The proceedings, which began at the Constitutional Court on September 15, lasted several hours and have now concluded. The full decision will be published within three days.
On July 17, the government applied to the Constitutional Court to determine the constitutionality of obligations stipulated in the Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the United States of America concerning the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” project. From that date, the High Court had three months to begin its review and was required to issue a decision by October 17.
The court decided to examine the case through written proceedings, with Constitutional Court Judge Edgar Shatiryan appointed as rapporteur.
Factor TV had asked the judge whether it would be possible to switch from written to oral proceedings, given the high level of public interest in the issue.
“One of the most important, so to speak, grounds or prerequisites for switching to oral proceedings is the effectiveness of examining the case. Under the present circumstances, I believe the case can also be examined effectively within written proceedings. As for public awareness, all Constitutional Court decisions are posted on the court’s website, published and, naturally, become available to the public,” Shatiryan said.
Thus, the Constitutional Court completed its examination of the case within one day and issued a decision.
