Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will travel to Germany on September 18 to receive the Hessian Peace Prize. The information was published on the website of the parliament of the German state of Hesse.
The prize is being awarded for efforts to establish peace in the South Caucasus, develop democratic institutions in Armenia and pursue a policy of closer ties with the European Union, Sputnik Armenia reports.
“The award recognizes the 51-year-old politician’s continued efforts to establish democratic institutions in the country and bring it closer to the European Union. As one of the leaders of the 2018 ‘Velvet Revolution,’ he paved the way for parliamentary elections and, since then, as prime minister, has led the country toward Europe on a path aimed at establishing peace. At the same time, with U.S. support, he succeeded in adopting a joint declaration on peace with the president of neighboring Azerbaijan in August 2025, as well as initialing the ‘Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan,’” the statement said.
The prize also includes a €25,000 monetary award.
Pashinyan will be in Wiesbaden on September 18, where the Hessian Peace Prize award ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. According to an official statement issued by the German side, President of the Hessian Parliament Astrid Wallmann will present the award to the Armenian prime minister.
Pashinyan and Aliyev jointly received the 2026 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity in February in connection with the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
