Armenia targets Latvia win, coach says

Armenia national team head coach Yeghishe Melikyan outlined the team’s mindset ahead of its opening match against Latvia in the new Nations League qualifying campaign, saying the task is clear: win and move forward.

Melikyan said the team’s goal is to secure victory in the upcoming match. He declined to discuss existing problems and absences, while emphasizing that there is an excellent atmosphere within the national team. The Armenia coach made the remarks while commenting on the first match of the new Nations League qualifying campaign against Latvia, Auroranews.am reported.

According to him, football fans will see a national team take the field with a fighting spirit in the upcoming league match.

“You will see us fighting on the pitch, and we want to see you too — with the stadium packed,” Melikyan said.

Melikyan also emphasized that both the Armenian national team and its supporters need a victory at this point.

“The task is one: win and move forward. We have a game plan. The challenge is to have enough resources for four matches. We have inner confidence. If we fail to win, we are professionals; we will not become discouraged and will keep moving forward,” Melikyan said.

In the newly starting Nations League qualifying campaign, Armenia’s national football team will host Latvia at the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium on September 25 at 8 p.m.
