Pashinyan says major investments flow into Armenian football

Very serious investments are being made in football, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said while discussing the construction of stadiums.

At its October 1 meeting, the government adopted a decision concerning the construction or reconstruction of UEFA-standard football stadiums in Vanadzor and the Getahovit settlement of the Ijevan community, Radar.am reported.

“Ultimately, institutional foundations for football development are being created in Armenia. Over the past month, I have made two visits — to the Noah football club academy and to the opening of the Armenian academy of Italian club Juventus,” he said.

According to Pashinyan, what had previously been discussed is now taking tangible form.

“Because football is becoming a sector of the economy in Armenia. People are making concrete investments within this logic. What logic did football follow before? The community head was supposed to contribute a little, then the regional governor, the government, benefactors. One would provide a boot for the right foot, another for the left…” he said, stressing that football could not develop that way.

The Avan branch of Juventus football club has officially opened in Yerevan, offering programs for children of different age groups. UEFA General Secretary Theodore Theodoridis and former Italian professional footballer and striker Fabrizio Ravanelli attended the opening ceremony.
