Strong Armenia alliance leader and businessman Samvel Karapetyan said in an interview with Hayeli Press Club editor Angela Tovmasyan that the purpose of the actions taken against him was to neutralize him.
“Their goal was to neutralize me. We will soon see what this is being done for,” he said, according to Panorama.am .
He noted that Artsakh is currently being discussed, but claimed that Armenia’s second most beautiful place, Syunik, will now be at risk.
“But even now, our people are showing their indifference. That is why we always say that we need to unite and eliminate this polarization from our country. But the authorities have levers and funds in the budget and are able to lull our people into complacency. When 50% of your country lives in poverty — I know the figure is 22%, but in reality around 50% of the population in the regions is poor — they can easily control them,” he said.
Karapetyan also questioned why, in his assessment, the authorities are once again impoverishing the population and farmers, saying that this allows them to control people with 10,000 drams.
“That is why everyone must fight together, the entire nation, because we are now facing greater dangers, perhaps even greater dangers than the Artsakh issue posed,” Karapetyan said.
