Andranik Kocharyan: Azerbaijani serviceman would not be handed over freely

Regarding the Shaki incident, Civil Contract MP Andranik Kocharyan said that authorities should not only conduct an internal investigation but should have thoroughly searched the entire area to establish what had happened.

Addressing opposition concerns that the Armenian side could hand over the Azerbaijani serviceman who shot an Armenian woman as a “gesture of goodwill,” Kocharyan said authorities should proceed in accordance with the requirements of the criminal case.

“If he is to be handed over, that means the handover does not happen for nothing, but in exchange for something,” the lawmaker said, according to «Aysor.am». Aysor.am

The former chair of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security Affairs could not immediately say which specific agency had failed in its duties.

He only said that the issue of the Azerbaijani serviceman’s entry into Armenia remained under his scrutiny and that he expected to receive responses from several government agencies on the matter in the near future.

On October 1, it emerged that Azerbaijani citizen and serviceman Nasimi Musayev had illegally entered house No. 20 on 6th Street in the Shaki settlement of Armenia’s Sisian community and fired a weapon after being discovered. A woman born in 1987 was wounded by the gunfire, while two of her three children also sustained injuries. The Azerbaijani serviceman then fled. As a result of subsequent measures, Nasimi Musayev was found at No. 26 on 6th Street in Shaki. He was remanded in custody for two months.
