Foreign national arrested in Armenia over trafficking of 39 people

The Main Department of Criminal Police under Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs received operational intelligence indicating that a foreign man was engaged in human trafficking in Armenia.

Following operational and investigative measures, criminal police obtained evidence indicating that the suspect had recruited two foreign nationals and brought them to Armenia under false promises of high salaries. He then confiscated their passports and, exploiting their vulnerable situation, forced them to commit computer-related theft at a hotel on Kirk Kerkorian Street in Yerevan, the Ministry of Internal Affairs Police reported.

Further investigations established that 39 other foreign nationals were also engaged in computer-related theft at the same hotel under the suspect’s coordination.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated, and the suspect has been placed in pretrial detention.
