European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said Armenia’s introduction of new biometric passports brings its citizens closer to visa-free travel to the European Union.
In a post on X, Kos welcomed the development, highlighting EU support for Armenia’s new passport system.
“With EU support, Armenian citizens will now be able to obtain new biometric passports, which will speed up border checks and make travel easier. Armenia is choosing closer ties with Europe, and we are working to ensure that this choice delivers tangible benefits for the country’s citizens,” she wrote.
On November 1, Armenia launched a new system for issuing next-generation biometric passports and identification cards, marking a step toward simplifying travel procedures.
Visa-free travel to the EU remains subject to a separate approval process.
