AGO GROUP TO VISIT ARMENIA

The CE Ministers’ Committee Monitoring Group headed by Pietro Ercole Ago will visit Armenia this weekend, CE Secretary General Terry Davis stated at a press conference in Strasbourg, RFE/RL reports. He expressed hope that the group will draw a reliable report on the situation in Armenia, including the mass media freedom. When commenting on his report on Nagorno Karabakh Mr. Davis noted that new Rapporteur, David Atkinson, has been appointed and he himself has no connection with the report at present. He as well accented that the report was prepared not by CE Secretary General Terry Davis, but member of the PACE Political Committee Terry Davis. In his words, the report is to be discussed during the January session if Atkinson manages to finish it by the time. To note, as Arminfo news agency came to know from a reliable source, the members of the Ago Group are likely to meet with the Armenian leadership on October 12-14.
