“The negotiations with Turkey will impart a new quality to the EU-Turkey relations”, RA Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hamlet Gasparian said when commenting on the attitude of the RA MFA towards the opening of the EU-Turkey membership talks. According to him, Turkey is expected to face drastic changes. “Armenia hopes that the possibility of the EU membership will urge Turkey to open the borders with Armenia and undertake serious measures for securing the rights of the national minorities, freedom of speech and other democratic values and standards. We also hope that Turkey will acknowledge the Armenian Genocide set up as a precondition by the European parliament,” RA MFA Spokesman stated.
