The Central Electoral Commission of Azerbaijan yesterday denied registration to first president of the independent republic Ayaz Mutalibov as a presidential contender. As reported by “Interfax” agency, second registration available in Mutalibov’s passport (in one of villages of the Vladimir region of Russia) was referred to as the reason. Besides, already in 1990-s a criminal action was brought against him in Azerbaijan. Mutalibov was indicted for complicity in sending Soviet troops to Baku on the night of January 20, 1990, as well as attempts of overturns in Azerbaijan in mid-90-s. It should be reminded that 19 candidates are registered for participation in the presidential election in Azerbaijan to be held October 15. Among them are incumbent president Heydar Aliyev and his son Ilham Aliyev.
