EU Sees Possible Steps to Solve Karabakh Issue

TheEU will further be active in settlement of “frozen conflicts” in South Caucasus, Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Secretary-General of the Council of the EU said at Vilnius Summit of Baltic and Black Sea Region leaders. In Solana’s words, “frozen conflicts should not stop democratization.” “It is necessary to work for introducing democracy in those countries,” the EU Council Secretary-General said.

Javier Solana reminded of the situation in Nagorno Karabakh, noting “we see possible steps to settle the frozen conflict there.” “The offer to assist Karabakh is still in effect,” he reminded. He remarked that “it is hard to help democratization without the active will of the parties themselves.” “Leadership should issue from the countries themselves, and we will help you,” Solana concluded, noting, “apparently our urges are ambitious,” reports IA Regnum.
