Absence of Direct Transport Communication Main Problem for Armenian-Bulgarian Economic Ties

Armenia and Bulgaria experience no political problems and this is a good stimulus for the development of trade and economic relations, Bulgarian Minister of State Administration and Administrative Reform Nikolay Vassilev said in conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter. In his words, during its 3rd sitting the Armenian-Bulgarian intergovernmental committee on economic cooperation signed two agreements, one in the agricultural sector and the other on architecture and building. “Unfortunately the level of trade and economic relations is not sufficient enough. The commodity turnover between the two states is too small. The absence of direct transport communication between Armenia and Bulgaria is the main problem. The way across the Black Sea is long and expensive. There is no direct air communication either,” Vassilev said. He also remarked that launching of Yerevan-Sofia flight is economically inexpedient. “The Bulgarian carriers are too weak to put up money in unprofitable routes. It’s easier for both countries to export goods in other states,” he underscored

To note, the Armenian-Bulgarian intergovernmental committee on economic cooperation has functioned for three years already. From the Armenian part the committee is co-chaired by Minister of Transport and Communications Andranik Manukyan.
