Pope Benedict XVI apologized to the Muslim world on Saturday. The Pontiff recognized the quote he cited in a theological lecture as hurting religious feelings of Muslims. He expressed respect to their faith and hope that Muslims will be able to understand the genuine meaning of his words.
We remind that Pope Benedict XVI delivered a theological lecture at University of Regensburg, Bavaria. When citing a medieval Byzantine source, the Catholic Church leader said, «Considering what new Mohammed brought, we will see only evil and inhumanity, this is his call to spread faith by means of a sword.» The Pope’s speech caused outrage of religious figures and tide of protest in Muslim countries, reports Reuters.
