If Everything Depended on OSCE MG Karabakh Problem Would Be Already Settled

The OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs do not perform their obligations, NKR President Arkady Ghukasian stated in Yerevan. In his words, the current negotiation process is a little odd since there is no process in the OSCE MG framework.

“The OSCE Budapest summit of 1994 directly ordered the mediators to arrange talks with all the conflicting sides. But it’s not done now. Actually the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs do not fulfill their obligations since they were instructed to launch intense talks within the OSCE MG format where Nagorno Karabakh, Armenia and Azerbaijan are represented. If everything depended on the Co-chairs the problem would have been already settled,” the NKR President said.

When commenting on the meeting of the Armenian and Azeri Presidents Ghukasian remarked that there are reasons to speak of final resolution of the problem. “Besides the Armenian parliamentary elections in May, presidential election will be held in Karabakh in July or August 2007 to be followed by presidential election in Armenia, Azerbaijan, U.S. and Russia. I think that contacts between the Armenian and Azeri leaders are essential and should be continued. However I would like to reiterate that settlement is impossible without Nagorno Karabakh’s participation. There is no other way,” Ghukasian emphasized, reports newsarmenia.ru.
