Armenia welcomes efforts towards combating genocide denial

On April 20, a conference on Durban Declaration revision was convened in Geneva. The conference was attended by UNO Member States. The conference aimed at discussion of steps towards realization of Action Plan adopted in 2001 during the Durban Conference on Combating Racism, Racial Discrimination and Xenophobia.

The conference will be attended by Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Arman Kirakosyan, who stressed the importance of countering discrimination against ethnic, cultural and religious minorities. As noted by Mr. Kirakosyan, Armenian Genocide was a radical manifestation of racial discrimination, and these days, many Armenians all over the world commemorate the 94th anniversary of the tragic event. According to RA Deputy Foreign Minister, the international community’s negation and indifference contribute to repetition of such crimes in future.

Arman Kirakosyan also announced that Armenia welcomes all efforts towards combating the Genocide negation policy and racial discrimination. During the conference, a document assessing the Durban forum will be adopted, the MFA Press Service reports.
