Ruben Melkonyan: Turkish media pay tribute to Ottoman nostalgia

Highlighting Armenian-Turkish relationship issues, Turkish mass media openly cooperates with country’s leadership, Ruben Melkonyan, specialist in Turkic philology and expert at the Noravank scientific-research center, told to journalists on June 11 in Yerevan. “Turkish press is overwhelmed with materials, authors of which seek to convince the public that citizens of Armenia are much more worried by their social and living conditions, than by the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition,” Mr. Melkonyan stressed.

According to him, one can face distorted facts in merely all materials in Turkish mass media. “Turkish periodicals pursue the single goal: to create an image of a great and kind Turkish ruler, and simultaneously to picture unhappy, burdened with everyday living problems an Armenian. Thus, Turkish media pay tribute to Ottoman nostalgia,” Ruben Melkonyan said, adding that comparing with Armenian mass media, Turkish media have exact and oriented ideology in respect to highlighting the Armenian-Turkish relations.
