NKR Public Council on Foreign Policy and Security urges world to recognize independence of Artsakh

The NKR Public Council on Foreign Policy and Security applied to the Armenian organizations of Diaspora, urging them to initiate a process of international recognition of Nagorno Karabakh Republic. Specifically, the appeal sent to three traditional Armenian parties and lobbying structures of the Armenian Diaspora reads: "Since April 2009, when the Armenian-Turkish dialogue came to a public level, we have been facing new challenges. The negotiation process between Armenia and Turkey and signing of the well-known Protocols have served as a reason for heated inter-Armenian discussions. The ongoing attempts of Turkey to link the Protocols' ratification by its parliament to Armenians' territorial concessions to Azerbaijan have created additional tension in the Caucasian region."

The western community, through the support of the Armenian organizations of Diaspora, has stirred up the process of the Armenian Genocide international recognition, as a way of pressure on the Turkish leadership refraining from the fulfillment of its obligations for the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation.

In response to this pressure, the Turkish political leadership stated about threat of destabilization in the region. Taking into consideration the bellicose plans of Azerbaijan, the closest ally of Turkey, one should not doubt where this destabilization may take place. Thus, we face the problem of enhancing NKR's security to prevent the threat of a new genocide repetition already in Eastern Armenia.

The NKR Public Council on Foreign Policy and Security believes that along with the Armenian Genocide recognition that is a very important issue, the Armenian organizations of Diaspora need to consider the international recognition of Artsakh Republic to be an equal priority of their activity.

According to Masis Mailyan, the Chairman of the Public Council on Foreign Policy and Security, the recent precedents in the Caucasus and Balkans prove that recognition is a real mechanism for enhancing security in conflict zones and supporting stability, as well as it does not require significant funds.

Member of the Public Council, NKR National Assembly member Gegham Baghdasaryan said: "Our foreign compatriots have a wide experience gained during decades of work on the Armenian Genocide recognition. It is time to use this experience for international and legal fixing of Armenian victories in Artsakh."

The Public Council believes that Artsakh's recognition even by regional bodies or local self-government bodies of different countries will inspire compatriots in Artsakh, as well as will serve as a serious moral and institutional support.
