Konjoryan defends wife’s HayPost huge salary

Civil Contract’s nominee for deputy speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly, Hayk Konjoryan, said his wife is “the lowest-paid director in HayPost’s history,” responding to a question from Hayastan faction lawmaker Agnesa Khamoyan.

“There has never been a HayPost director in the company’s history who received as low a salary as my wife,” Konjoryan said, according to RFE/RL.

He said that before being appointed chief executive, Shushan Aleksanyan had worked at HayPost for five years as the head of a department.

“There was a competition, my wife took part in it and was selected as the director of HayPost,” he added.

Aleksanyan was appointed chief executive of Armenia’s national postal operator, HayPost CJSC, in November 2024. HayPost is a wholly state-owned company.

According to the asset declaration she submitted to Armenia’s Corruption Prevention Commission, her annual salary in the position exceeded $118,000. Based on the declaration, her monthly remuneration at the state-owned company amounted to more than 3.6 million drams, or about $10,000.

Responses from HayPost and the Ministry of High-Tech Industry, which oversees the company, have not clarified whether the competition for the chief executive position was impartial and competitive. The official responses also did not explain how the HayPost director’s salary was determined.
