Armenia hosts CTBTO regional workshop

The five-day workshop brings together Eastern European experts to strengthen cooperation, data analysis and professional expertise in nuclear-test monitoring.

A five-day regional workshop organized by the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) for National Data Centers from Eastern European countries opened on August 3 at the Seismic Protection Territorial Service of Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs. Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan also attended the event.

The workshop has brought together representatives of various countries, industry experts, and invited guests.

On behalf of the Armenian government, Arpine Sargsyan thanked the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization for making the workshop in Armenia possible, emphasizing that the broad participation reflects a strong commitment to cooperation and the exchange of scientific expertise. She said the event would provide participants with a platform for professional development and new opportunities.

“This workshop is not only an effort aimed at the effective implementation of the treaty but also an opportunity to strengthen the resilience of the Republic of Armenia. I would like to reaffirm that Armenia remains committed to the goals of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and to strengthening international peace and security,” she said.

Noting the important contribution of the Seismic Protection Territorial Service to the International Monitoring System, Sargsyan stressed that such involvement demonstrates Armenia’s readiness to play an active role in this field.

She also thanked the staff of the Seismic Protection Territorial Service and partner organizations for their efforts and effective work in organizing the event.

Speeches were also delivered by Sos Margaryan, Director of the Seismic Protection Territorial Service, and Yassin Shaarani, a representative of the Technical Secretariat of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization.

During the workshop, participants will become familiar with innovative solutions used in the field and will further develop their professional skills through simulation exercises.
