Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev has said in Turkey that Baku expects Armenia to remove from its Constitution provisions that, in Azerbaijan’s view, contain “territorial claims against Azerbaijan and Turkey.” He made the remarks in an interview with the Turkish television channel Haber Global, APA reported.
“We are receiving signals that the process of adopting a new Constitution will begin in Armenia soon. A referendum may also be held. Once the territorial claims are removed from the preamble of Armenia’s Constitution, Azerbaijan will see no obstacle to signing a final peace agreement,” Hajiyev said.
He added that peace has already been established de facto in the region.
Azerbaijan has consistently put forward preconditions for signing a peace agreement with Armenia, including the removal of references to Nagorno-Karabakh from Armenia’s Constitution.
