A court has accepted for consideration a lawsuit filed by Liparit Drmeyan, former head of Armenia’s Office of the Representative on International Legal Matters and a member of the Wings of Unity party, against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The lawsuit, which seeks the retraction of statements alleged to be defamatory, was accepted on August 3 and assigned to Judge Alfred Vardanyan of the Yerevan Civil Court, Sputnik Armenia reported.
During a briefing on July 30, Pashinyan announced that he was submitting a crime report. Referring to Liparit Drmeyan, he said that Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA), managed by businessman Samvel Karapetyan, had a source within the government. Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office later said that the appropriate legal process had been initiated based on the prime minister’s statement.
On July 31, Drmeyan filed a lawsuit, stating that Pashinyan’s remarks were false and had damaged his honor and dignity.
Drmeyan did not seek financial compensation in his initial claim but said he may add such a demand at a later stage.
Drmeyan was dismissed from the post of head of the Office of the Representative on International Legal Matters in August 2025. Responding to a journalist’s remark that the government’s Office of the Representative on International Legal Matters had also confirmed that the Stockholm arbitration rulings regarding ENA were subject to mandatory enforcement, Pashinyan said: “I am the government. No one can hold a position that contradicts mine. If there are people in the government who hold positions contrary to mine, they should submit their resignations and leave the building immediately. Otherwise, I will remove them myself.”
