Armenia’s Investigative Committee has launched criminal proceedings against Avet Konjoryan, the brother of National Assembly deputy speaker candidate Hayk Konjoryan, on suspicion of hooliganism. The committee confirmed the information, Factor.am reported.
The criminal proceedings were initiated following a complaint submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office by Daniel Ioannisyan, chairman of the Union of Informed Citizens NGO.
Ioannisyan said he had filed the complaint over Avet Konjoryan’s alleged use of publicly voiced obscene sexual insults, describing the incident as a possible act of hooliganism. According to him, a video circulating online shows Konjoryan shouting sexually explicit insults from inside a car while driving on a public street.
The same video also shows Avet Konjoryan being accompanied by Armenia’s Patrol Service. An internal investigation has been launched into that incident.
On July 27, it emerged that Avet Konjoryan, the brother of Civil Contract parliamentary faction leader Hayk Konjoryan, had been assaulted. A video circulated online appeared to show four men approaching a man lying on the ground, believed to be Avet Konjoryan, kicking and punching him before leaving the scene. Criminal proceedings were launched over that incident, and five individuals were charged with committing physical violence as a group.
