Pakistan envoy highlights ties with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Russia

Pakistan attaches importance to strengthening cooperation with Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, has said.

Speaking about the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia in the context of easing tensions between Baku and Yerevan, as well as the appointment of Armenia’s first ambassador to Pakistan, the diplomat said: “Armenia, Azerbaijan and the entire Caucasus have much in common with Pakistan,” TASS reported.

“For many years we had no diplomatic relations with Armenia, and I am very pleased that recent developments have created an understanding of the need to establish normal relations with Armenia. If you look at recent events, I have traveled extensively in Dagestan, Chechnya, Sochi and Krasnodar, and I have also visited Azerbaijan. Historically, the Caucasus region and Pakistan have had very strong ties. I see great prospects for cooperation between Pakistan, Armenia and the entire Caucasus region,” he said.

The ambassador also noted that a significant number of Armenians live in Pakistan.

“Few people know this, but one of the recipients of Pakistan’s highest military decorations was a Pakistani soldier of Armenian origin,” he said.

According to Tirmizi, ties formed abroad also contribute to the development of relations between peoples.

“I have also been to Dubai. Many marriages have taken place there between Armenians and Pakistanis. This helps strengthen people-to-people ties and promotes trade and cultural exchange. I believe that Armenia, Azerbaijan and the entire Caucasus have much in common with Pakistan,” the diplomat said.

Tirmizi also said he had been interested in the history of the Caucasus since childhood and had dreamed of reading books on the subject.

“I have been fortunate enough to visit many countries and places in this region. That is why we have historical ties with the Caucasus. Armenia is a very important part of those ties. I can see how people-to-people contacts and business relations between Armenia and Pakistan are now developing,” he concluded.

On August 31, 2025, Armenia and Pakistan announced the establishment of diplomatic relations.

In May 2025, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif stated in Lachin that Azerbaijan had allegedly “been attacked by Armenia” in the past and that “Turkey and Pakistan stood by Azerbaijan like a rock.”
