Armenian National Assembly Speaker Ruben Rubinyan held a telephone conversation with Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, discussing issues on the agenda of interparliamentary cooperation between Armenia and Russia and stressing the importance of continued parliamentary dialogue and cooperation on matters of mutual interest.
Rubinyan said unjustified restrictions on exports of Armenian goods to the Russian market were a cause for concern and stressed the importance of resolving the issue within the existing legal and contractual framework between the two countries and the regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The agenda of relations between Armenia and the European Union was also discussed. Ruben Rubinyan said a referendum on Armenia’s membership in the European Union, which Russia expects Armenia to hold, could become practically possible only after Armenia submits a formal application to the EU and the process enters a substantive stage.
The two sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue an open dialogue aimed at further developing interparliamentary cooperation and strengthening mutual understanding on issues on the bilateral agenda.
