The European Union welcomes the progress achieved between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the past year, EU foreign affairs and security policy spokesperson Anitta Hipper said.
She was referring to developments following the agreements reached in Washington on August 8, 2025, Auroranews.am reports.
“The initialing of the draft peace agreement and the signing of the joint declaration on the peace process on August 8, 2025, marked historic steps on the path toward full normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Hipper said.
According to her, the sides have made significant progress since then. Among the achievements, the EU highlighted the removal of trade and transit restrictions, the release of detained persons, and increased contacts between Armenian and Azerbaijani representatives within the framework of the Bridge of Peace initiative.
At the same time, Brussels stressed the importance of further implementing the agreements reached, as well as signing and ratifying the peace agreement.
The European Union also emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Armenia and Azerbaijan, expanding trade and developing cooperation in the energy sector.
Hipper said the border delimitation and demarcation process should continue, humanitarian issues should be addressed, and efforts should be made toward reconciliation between the two societies.
“The EU stands ready to provide additional support and expert assistance in all these areas,” Hipper said.
