Pashinyan says Constitution not discussed with Aliyev

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev did not discuss changes to Armenia’s Constitution during their meeting in Bishkek.

“We discussed all issues on our agenda with the president of Azerbaijan. The Constitution is not part of our agenda. On the contrary, we make it clear that we do not discuss the agenda or issue of our Constitution with foreign partners and other countries,” Pashinyan said, according to Sputnik Armenia.

The prime minister added that Yerevan’s wish and message is for other countries not to adopt the opposition’s rhetoric or use it themselves, as such an approach is inconsistent with the logic of partnership. Pashinyan stressed that the Constitution is exclusively Armenia’s internal matter.

Pashinyan and Aliyev met in Bishkek on Aug. 31. According to the official statement, the sides agreed to continue steps aimed at strengthening lasting peace, normalizing interstate relations and enhancing connectivity through direct bilateral contacts.
