Yerevan lists potential managers for Ajapnyak metro project

A list of companies has already been drawn up for selecting a manager for the Ajapnyak metro project, and it includes Russian companies. Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan said this, according to Azatutyun.

Avinyan said there had been “progress” on the Ajapnyak metro project.

“There is a list of companies to be considered for project management. Invitations will be sent to them, and one will be selected through a competitive process,” the mayor said.

According to the mayor, the project manager must be selected in the first stage, with its engineers responsible for technical supervision. After that, a company is expected to be selected to carry out the metro construction work.

“We have a list for the first part, the manager, and we have some ideas regarding the contractors,” Avinyan said.

Asked whether the Russian side could be involved in the project, the mayor confirmed that Russian companies had also been considered, but said “time will tell” which of them or the other candidates would ultimately be selected.

Avinyan answered journalists’ questions while presenting new specialized equipment, including handheld vacuum cleaners, purchased for cleaning work in Yerevan.

On Sept. 3, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the possibility of Russian participation in the construction of Ajapnyak station had been discussed with Russia.

“They have extensive experience in this area, and we would be happy for them to support us on this issue,” Pashinyan said.

Construction of Ajapnyak station has been among the current authorities’ promises for years. While Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan has called it the municipality’s top project, the ruling Civil Contract party pledged in its parliamentary election program this year only to begin construction by 2031, with completion scheduled for 2033.
