Former Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan has filed a lawsuit against Armplus.am over an article titled “Extortion of more than $1 million and threats: New high-profile scandal involving Hovik Abrahamyan emerges.”
According to the lawsuit, the public statements and factual claims made in the article are false, do not correspond to reality and constitute defamation that damages plaintiff Hovik Abrahamyan’s honor and dignity. Abrahamyan is therefore seeking an order requiring the website to retract the allegedly defamatory factual claims, as well as 6 million drams in compensation for defamation from the limited liability company, Pastinfo reported.
As the retraction text, Abrahamyan is demanding that the defendant publish the following on the website and its Facebook social media page in a manner accessible and visible to everyone for at least five working days, or in print media with a circulation of at least 5,000 copies: “We retract the statements we made about Hovik Abrahamyan in the article titled ‘Extortion of more than $1 million and threats: New high-profile scandal involving Hovik Abrahamyan emerges’ concerning the fraudulent extortion of a large sum of money and exertion of pressure, and state that they do not correspond to reality.”
The lawsuit has been assigned to Judge Artush Avagyan of the Yerevan Civil Court.
