The Anti-Corruption Court of Appeal has rejected a special review appeal challenging the detention of Armen Ashotyan, vice chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia. He will remain under house arrest. His lawyer, Ruben Melikyan, announced the decision.
The lawyer also addressed the total duration of restrictions on Ashotyan’s liberty imposed in connection with different criminal cases.
“Let me remind you that Armen Ashotyan has been deprived of his liberty in the ‘second case’ for four and a half months already, initially in prison and now under house arrest. In the ‘first case,’ his deprivation of liberty lasted 777 days between 2023 and 2025,” lawyer Ruben Melikyan wrote.
The proceedings involving Ashotyan also concern alleged abuse of official powers and money laundering involving seven former officials and property valued at approximately 200 million Armenian drams. According to the Investigative Committee, Ashotyan, acting in complicity with those individuals, abused his official position and assisted former Finance Minister Gagik Khachatryan and his son, Artyom Khachatryan, in acquiring property that was not legally subject to alienation.
