Lena Matevosyan, a member of Armenia’s National Assembly from the Strong Armenia parliamentary faction, said she raised the issue of Armenian prisoners and other individuals allegedly unlawfully held in Azerbaijan during meetings in the United States.
“During the meetings in the U.S., discussions mainly focused on Armenian-American relations, but I could not miss the opportunity to raise the issue of Armenian prisoners of war and other individuals unlawfully held in Azerbaijan,” she said in a Facebook video message.
She visited the United States on a working trip from September 26 to October 10, participating in a program titled “Activities of Legislative Bodies in the U.S.,” organized under the Open World program funded by the U.S. Congress.
The lawmaker said that meetings were held in Washington with staff members of John Wilson, Adam Schiff and Diana Tutii, as well as other representatives of congressional offices.
Matevosyan also spoke about a visit to the U.S. Library of Congress, where the lawmakers examined Armenian manuscripts preserved in its collections, including a Gospel dating back to 1321.
“We will continue to work consistently toward implementing a balanced international policy,” she said.
