Winter conscription in Armenia set to start November 16

The Armenian Ministry of Defense has drafted and submitted a proposal for organizing the 2026 winter military conscription campaign. Under the proposal, the draft is scheduled to begin on November 16 and conclude on February 12, 2027, inclusive. The proposed timetable has not yet entered into force, as the government has not approved the corresponding decision.

According to the draft proposal, the main phase of personnel recruitment for the armed forces will take place from January 7 to February 12, 2027.

The proposal also establishes discharge periods for citizens completing compulsory military service and alternative military service. Specifically, servicemen who have completed their prescribed terms of service are scheduled to be discharged between January 7 and January 31, 2027, inclusive, Factor.am reports.

The conscription campaign will cover male citizens who turn 18 by December 31, 2026. Individuals whose previously granted military service deferments expire by December 31 of the same year will also be called up.

In addition, the draft will apply to other categories of citizens specified under the legislation. The proposal also provides for the inclusion of women who have voluntarily expressed their willingness to perform compulsory military service and submitted the relevant applications.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has been instructed to ensure that citizens evading conscription are located, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Security Service are expected to strengthen controls at state border crossing points during the conscription campaign.
