Armenia assesses Ebola spread risk as low

The risk of Ebola being imported into and spreading within Armenia is assessed as low, according to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).

The center has published updated epidemiological information on the spread of Ebola in African countries.

As of October 20, 4,602 people had died from Ebola in Congo, where 9,552 cases of the disease had been confirmed. Infections have also been reported in Kenya, with nine cases and one death recorded.

All cases in Kenya were registered in the capital, Nairobi. Those infected included family members and healthcare workers who had been in close contact with the first patient.

In Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Health announced on October 20 that the country’s first imported case of Ebola virus disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus had been confirmed.

The patient was isolated as soon as symptoms appeared and is currently receiving the necessary medical care.

Efforts are also continuing to identify people who had contact with the infected individual, determine the full extent of their contacts and conduct epidemiological investigations to prevent further potential transmission.

The NCDC also stated that it is continuously monitoring the international epidemiological situation and following published data on the spread of the disease in various countries.

Ebola virus disease is a dangerous and often fatal infection transmitted through direct contact with the bodily fluids of infected people or animals, including blood, saliva and urine. The disease typically causes high fever, weakness, muscle pain, gastrointestinal disturbances and bleeding.
