Mirzoyan says Shaki incident differs from border crossings

Armenian Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Ararat Mirzoyan commented on an incident in Shaki, a settlement in Syunik Province, where an Azerbaijani serviceman entered a residential home and wounded an Armenian woman, saying he had no information about the matter.

“I have no information whatsoever,” he said, Aysor.am reports.

Asked whether the person who had lost his way would be exchanged for prisoners, the minister replied:

“People who lose their way are exchanged for others who have lost their way, in a spirit of goodwill and constructive cooperation. Just recently, we also saw information about a shepherd who had lost his way.

“I assure you that there are also soldiers, shepherds and animals from the Armenian side that stray across the border. These matters are handled through agreements, and despite the opposition’s efforts, we will continue to uphold those agreements. At least, I support maintaining them.”

Regarding the Shaki incident, Mirzoyan said it still needed to be established whether the serviceman had lost his way or deliberately crossed the border.

“However, regardless of the circumstances, a crime was committed. This completely changes the situation, and all provisions of Armenian legislation must be observed. This does not fall into the category of people who have simply lost their way,” he said.

Earlier, it emerged that an Azerbaijani shepherd had crossed into Armenia and had been located. Reports also stated that he abuses alcoholic beverages. He is a resident of Azerbaijan’s Chatakh village, Oxu.az reports.

On October 1, it became known that Azerbaijani citizen and serviceman Nasimi Musayev had illegally entered house No. 20 on 6th Street in Shaki, part of the Sisian community in Syunik Province, and fired shots from his weapon after being discovered.

The shooting wounded a woman born in 1987, while two of her three children also sustained injuries. The Azerbaijani serviceman then fled. Following search operations, Nasimi Musayev was located at No. 26 on 6th Street in Shaki. He was remanded in custody for two months.
